In Luke 17:1 Jesus told his disciples that things that cause people to stumble, or offenses, are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. This verse in the ESV translation states that temptations to sin are sure to come. These stumbling blocks, these offenses, are an entrapment of Satan to cause us to sin. So, what is the remedy? In Luke 17:3-4, Jesus speaks of the need to forgive our brothers and sisters no matter how many times they may have offended us. Forgiveness is the means by which we can keep from stumbling.
