Paul’s primary focus in this passage is propriety and order in worship. The 21st-century reader must understand Paul’s emphasis and the cultural context of the 1st-century Corinthians to focus on healthy interdependent relationships (with Christ and within the body of Christ) rather than rules (related to length of hair or the nature and necessity of head coverings).
