Paul describes his relationship with the Corinthians as a father with his children. He could have chosen to dissociate with them when they opposed him and boasted about their wrongdoing. Instead, he presses in to admonish, urge them to change, and even threaten discipline because he cares deeply for them. Through his continued interaction we see that Paul is not exerting authoritarian control. Rather, he is exercising parental care.
