In this passage, Paul elaborates on the message and power of the cross of Christ. Despite his wisdom, eloquence, and direct commission from the Lord Jesus, Paul did not rely on any of those factors to persuade his listeners. Instead, in his preaching and teaching, he resolved to know nothing except Jesus Christ and him crucified. Paul was convinced that the message of the cross accompanied by the power of the Spirit was sufficient to bring people to God.
