Hello parents (and any other interested parties)!
Each week, I will be presenting a song to help your children memorize the Sunday School verse. Please feel free to use it and share. I also plan on sharing some thoughts on the passage so you can put it in context and have some information for discussion.
This week's verse is Exodus 15:26. Here is the song I wrote:
This passage is a specific promise from Yahweh to Israel regarding the Torah, the commandments given by Yahweh. He gave them a lot of commands that probably made little sense to them in that day. There were multiple foodborne illnesses, dysentery, leprosy, and many others. Today, we know that these diseases come from bacteria and other critters. Many of God's commands protected them from all of this. God's promise was that if Israel obeyed His, he would not only protect them from the natural results of poor sanitation and trasmissible disease, but He would miraculously prevent even accidental infection. He would heal them!
How does this apply today? God often asks us to do things we don't understand. Isaiah reminds us that His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. When we follow His commands and leading with abandon, we can be sure that He is with us. We are also promised that all things work together for good to those who love God AND obey. So, even if something looks bad or is confusing from our perspective, we can KNOW that it is good. AMEN!
